Frequently Asked Questions
Is home birth safe?
Statistics have shown that home birth is a very safe way to welcome your baby. In my pratice the C-section rate is 12 % versus 40- 55 % in the Austin area hospitals.
What is my experience?
I have worked in health care for over 20 years as a nurse, doula and midwife. Since being licensed in 2011, I have deliverd hundreds of babies as a primary home birth midwife.
What equipment do you use?
I bring a lot of equipment with me and use generally very little. My bags contain oxygen and resuscitation equipment for mom and baby, IV fluids, suture material, emergency medications, instruments, birth stool, rebozzo, homeopathic remedies, herbs, aromatherapy oils etc.
Are you doing Water Birth?
Yes! I love the use of water in labor and provide a birth pool.
Do you do VBACs?
Yes! I firmly believe that a home birth gives moms the greatest chance at a successful VBAC. I am very passionate about giving women the option for a VBAC.
I started with a doctor; can I switch providers?
Absolutely, it is common for my clients to learn more about their birth choices as they grow during their pregnancy experience. I can easily pick up where your are. Records are requested and nothing has to be repeated. It is your birth, you choose where to give birth.
What are your licenses and professional associations?
I am a Licensed Midwife (LM) through the Texas Department of Licensure and Regulation (TDLR) and a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). I am a member of the Association of Texas Midwives and a Preceptor for the Association of Texas Midwifery Program. I am a Breastfeeding Educator through the Texas Department of Health Services. I am also a pediatric nurse licensed in Germany.
When should I start care?
Contact me ASAP when you find out that you are pregnant. I limit how many pregnant moms I take care of. We can start care at any point in your first trimester.
Do you take Insurance?
Yes! I am committed to helping women use their health insurance. We will discuss options in detail.
Why are you a home birth midwife?
I am very passionate about providing the option for women to give birth saferly at home, if they desire to do so. I have dedicated my life to helping women through their journey during the childbearing year. My own children were born at home, which was a transformative experience for me and set me on my path of being a home birth midwife.
